This post is regarding the pattern and syllabus for the LDCE conducted by the Department of Posts (DoP) to recruit Inspectors. Candiates may download the Complete IPO Exam Syllabus
Exam Pattern:
- The exam consists of four papers, each carrying IP Syllabus300 marks and lasting 3 hours.
- Papers I, II, and III have 150 MCQs each. Paper IV has 125 MCQs and a 50-mark section on noting and drafting.
- Qualifying marks are 40% in each paper with a minimum overall of 45% for the general category. For SC/ST candidates, the qualifying marks are 33% per paper and 38% overall.

- Rules: Indian Post Office Rules, Government Savings Bank Promotion General Rules, Schemes for various Postal Deposits and Savings Accounts, Post Office Life Insurance Rules, Book of BO Rules, Jansuraksha Schemes
- Guidelines for Inland/Foreign Post: Post Office Guide Parts I & II (except Sections VII & VIII), Domestic/Foreign Post guidelines issued by DoP Directorate
- Mail Operations & Money Remittances: Postal Manuals (specified volumes & chapters) on Mail Network Optimization, e-MO, iMO, IMTS, MMTS, IFS MO etc.
- Savings Bank & Certificates: Post Office Savings Bank Manuals, Core Banking Services guidelines
- Postal Life Insurance & Rural Postal Life Insurance: Guidelines issued by DoP Directorate, Annual Reports & Book of Information of DoP
