Relaxation of Child Care Leave (CCL) Spells for Central Government Employees
The Government of India has introduced a significant change to the Child Care Leave (CCL) policy for Central Government employees. This new directive aims to provide greater flexibility and support to female Central Government employees and single male Central Government employees, especially in situations requiring medical treatment for their children.
Key Details of the New Policy
Effective from July 29, 2024, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions has empowered leave sanctioning authorities in various Ministries and Departments to relax the spells of Child Care Leave. Here are the critical points of the new policy:
- Eligibility:
- Female Central Government employees
- Single male Central Government employees
- Current Policy:
- As per Rule 43-C(3)(i) of the CCS (Leave) Rules, 1972, eligible employees can avail up to three spells of Child Care Leave in a calendar year.
- New Relaxation:
- Leave sanctioning authorities can now relax up to an additional three spells of Child Care Leave beyond the existing three spells.
- This relaxation is specifically for cases where the child is admitted as an inpatient in a hospital.
- Implementation:
- The new directive is effective immediately from the date of issuance of the memorandum, i.e., July 29, 2024.
Impact and Benefits
This policy change is a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of Central Government employees by:
